St. Paul Regional High School is an outstanding school with a tradition of excellence extending over 40 years. St. Paul Regional High School is the largest high school in the division offering a diverse program to over 300 students. With a staff of 23 teachers and 9 instructional assistants, students have a choice of a full academic program including Math 31, Physics 30 and Aboriginal Studies.
An excellent array of complementary courses including Art, Psychology, Physical Education and Music give students an opportunity to study in many disciplines. Our Career and Technology wing, gives students the opportunity to explore career choices including Mechanics, Welding, Building Construction, Cosmetology, Food Studies, and Communication Technology. Many students that have graduated from the CTS program at St. Paul Regional High School are currently employed in today’s current hot trades market. The training that they have received has certainly prepared them for the future and with the renovations; students will continue to work with cutting edge technology. St. Paul Regional High School is a wireless environment and students are welcome to access the system through personal laptops.
Students with special needs are also included in our school population and are integrated into all aspects of the school community and culture. The Knowledge and Employability program is also available to students who for one reason or another are struggling and need a smaller classroom environment, with one to one assistance, to brush up on reading and math skills. Remediation Plus is another program that assists students in increasing their reading skills and working towards success and high school completion. Along with Remediation Plus, the Accelerated Reading program has been introduced into all English classes, so that students can foster a love for reading which is recognized as instrumental in student success.
Our language program is also well-developed offering courses in both Cree and French. As well, our Music program gives students the opportunity to try their hand at both instruments and vocals while mustering up the courage to perform. Counseling plays a large role in any school and we are fortunate to have full-time counselors available for career and personal counseling. Many resources can be accessed for a multitude of personal issues and career resources, career fairs, post-secondary information, and scholarship information is available.
Extracurricular activities complete the picture at St. Paul Regional High School. These activities assist students make healthy lifestyle choices and keep students physically active. The Outdoor Club offers hiking and skiing adventures in both Banff and Jasper. Extracurricular athletic groups include both a junior football team (the Bengals), a senior football team (the Lions). Both of these teams are very successful, competing all the way to the provincial level. Our volleyball and basketball teams – both junior and senior – have also had the opportunity to compete at the provincial level. The sports of golf, cross county, curling, badminton, RCMP Road Race and of course track and field, all offer students a place to shine and Regional certainly does shine. Many banners, local and provincial, are proudly displayed in the gymnasium, Home of the Saints, honouring the accomplishments of our students.
